I had a conversation this week about how AI is changing publishing economics.
But the answer that kept coming back to me wasn't about economics at all.
Can you tell if something was written by AI? And does it matter if you can't?
Most people assume the risk is fluency. That AI-generated content will sound robotic, or obviously machine-made.

That's not really the problem anymore.

The more interesting question is whether readers feel taken somewhere.
AI-generated content often reads well. But it can lack a clear thinking journey. You're given information rather than led through it. And that distinction, subtle as it is, matters.

Because what readers actually want - I think - isn't just content that answers questions. It's content that shifts something. That takes them somewhere they didn't expect.
The writers and educators who understand this will matter more, not less, as generation becomes cheaper. Because the value was never in the words. It was in the thinking behind them.
As content becomes easier to generate, the real value shifts toward work that helps people think, not just consume.

That's what we're focused on at Acorn Studio Press. Not producing more. Producing things worth remembering.
What do you think? Does it matter who wrote it, or how it made you think?
