FUTURE OF LEARNINGBEHIND THE BUILDTHE ACORN STORY

A few weeks ago we were accepted onto a pre-accelerator programme.

“We’ve got this,” I thought. “Acorn has been in my head for AGES now. I’ve studied this and pulled it apart from all angles.”

And then I spent time working through the technical needs assessment for tomorrow’s workshop.

All I can say is - where would I be without my trusty companions on this journey!

It sounds terribly sensible and grown-up. And I can do that if I have to. Sometimes.

In reality, there was a lot of “That’s a good point.” And “I hadn’t thought about that.” And even the odd "Ouch!"

Suddenly I had to turn my baby into business language: What are the dependencies? The risks? The assumptions? And what do I actually know about making this work on a practical, technical level?

It’s so easy to fall in love with the thing you’re building. And trust me, if you look inside me you’ll find Acorn juice! I believe!!

But it’s much harder to examine the things that could stop it succeeding. It was a bit like grappling with a slippery (large) eel.

One thing I’m learning is that building something new isn’t just about finding answers. It’s about becoming comfortable with better questions.
