BEHIND THE BUILD

I cannot believe that it is already three months since I drove to Leeds. Gosh how things have changed since then! At the time I wrote this on LinkedIn. Today I found myself wondering just how soon we were going to get notification from the UCL CDI... which made me think of this. Acorn has a long way to go still, but how we've morphed in the last three months.

Amazon’s Innovation Accelerator had selected
Acorn Studio Press as one of thirty from 100 applicants, and I wanted to show up properly. Mingle-head was fully on!

Walking into Amazon LBA5 - car park the size of a planet - I suspected I might be representing one of the smallest businesses in the room. I still think I was right.

We toured the fulfilment centre (wow, wow, wow) and kicked off the programme. But what I wasn’t expecting was how much I’d learn from the other founders.

Different sectors.
Different stages.
But all thinking about growth in ways I hadn’t considered.
Every conversation felt like opening a door to something new.

We worked. We learned. Our table may have won a challenge. I may have been a little bull-ish 😊

And it made me realise something: you can spend a lot of time thinking you need more answers. But sometimes what you actually need is a different environment. And to plough ahead with the answers that you do have. Lovely lovely quote I heard (paraphrasing): If you wait for 100% of the answers, you will be 100% late.

I’m going home with my head full.
Full of ideas about how to think differently about Acorn.
Full of gratitude for the people who chose us.
And full of something else too.

A reminder that Acorn might be one woman's dream, but it has taken a team to bring it to life.

So back to my normal world, and my motley, magnificent crew who work alongside me, who humour me, support me, and help me more than they probably realise.

Time to go back to them with everything I learned yesterday, and listen to what they think.
